Opened in 1927, Edmonton City Centre was the first licensed
airport in Canada. Unofficially and aptly for us - named "The
Gateway to the North," CYXD was used as a WWII training
base and was once one of the busiest airports in Canada. On
November 30th, 2013 (nearly 6 months after we visited, the
airport closed its remaining runway - 12/30 - for good.
